Grimoire Tier List

Your grimoire is the combat identity of a Clover Time character. Races, social classes, and traits multiply sustain and farm speed, but the book you roll decides which buttons clear mobs, bosses, and PvP trades. This page ranks the current community meta for early access, explains pity, and shows how to feed the tower with Mana Crystals. Pair it with the Tier List Hub, race rankings, and trait rankings when you plan a full reroll budget.

Ranks below focus on move variety and PvE damage. A Tier III book can still finish the beta content loop; it just asks for better positioning, stronger passives, or more time per clear. Always confirm on-screen rates at the tower before you dump a crystal stack.

Tier I — Meta picks

Anti Magic and Poison sit at the top of most community lists.

  • Anti Magic — Best overall kit for many players: flexible tools, strong PvE damage, and enough coverage that fights do not collapse when you miss one cooldown. It is the showcase chase for players who want a book that feels complete in both open-world grinding and tougher encounters. If you land Anti Magic early, stop spinning and invest crystals into mastery, gear, and race upgrades instead.
  • Poison — Matches Anti Magic in the Tier I band thanks to projectile pressure and DoT-style value. Excellent for players who prefer spacing, chip damage, and keeping enemies in a damage cycle while dodging. Poison rewards patience and safe angles more than pure face-tank trades.

If your goal is fastest progression per crystal, stop on either Tier I result. Chasing the other Tier I book is optional flex, not a requirement.

Tier II — Strong alternatives

Ice, Explosive Flame, and Battle Lightning form the sub-meta band.

  • Ice — Reliable PvE damage and a comfortable progression kit. Easy to recommend when you hit it before Epic/Legendary pity and want to move on with life.
  • Explosive Flame — Burst-leaning clear tool with strong damage potential. Slightly more commitment to timing windows than Ice, but still a valid main for long stretches of content.
  • Battle Lightning — High magic-feel pressure and solid all-rounder status. Community notes sometimes call for buffs, yet it remains a justified keep if your passives (Elf/Devil + mana traits) already feed spell uptime.

Tier II books are acceptable mains. Do not soft-pity yourself into bankruptcy just because Poison or Anti Magic did not appear yet—especially if you still need race or trait spins.

Tier III — Usable, suboptimal combos

Chain, Water, Snow, Earth, and Fire clear content but usually lose damage-per-minute or combo fluidity versus Tier I/II.

  • Chain — Close-range trap and barrage fantasy; strong when you can stick to targets, weaker if you constantly lose spacing.
  • Water / Snow — Serviceable elemental kits for learning the game; upgrade when crystal income is healthy.
  • Earth — Steady but rarely the damage ceiling pick.
  • Fire — Often called the weakest of the listed set; fine for tutorial hours, poor as a long-term crystal sink.

Keep a Tier III book if you are brand new and still learning controls. Plan a tower session once fishing, chests, and fragment crafting are online—see How to get a Grimoire.

How to reach the Grimoire Tower

  1. Finish early tutorial beats so you can leave the starting village safely.
  2. Talk to Finral for a teleport to the tower, or broom-fly / walk from the village toward compass heading roughly 105–120.
  3. Bring Mana Crystals before you interact with the roll station.
  4. Read the on-screen pool and pity counters, then spin.
  5. After a Tier I or strong Tier II hit, leave—redirect crystals into progression instead of greed spins.

New accounts should also redeem codes for free spins or crystals whenever they are live, then follow Getting Started for day-one route order.

Pity system (current community values)

The tower uses soft pity-style counters. Track them so you do not waste a near-pity streak:

Rarity bandPity threshold (approx.)
Epic35
Legendary70
Mythical175

Exact odds per book can differ—always trust the in-game display over a wiki snapshot. If you are within a handful of Epic pity and still on Fire/Earth, finishing the pity can be smarter than switching characters. If you just hit a fresh pity reset with a Tier II book you enjoy, bank crystals for race/trait goals instead.

Mana Crystal farming routes

Crystals (and the fragments that craft into them) come from several loops:

  • Chests — Open-world and reward chests are the most direct source.
  • World pickups — Explore; crystals and materials spawn outside combat.
  • Enemy fragments — Farm Mana Wolves and similar foes, then craft upward.
  • Fishing — Buy a rod, fish any water, convert fish into fragments/crystals. Slow but AFK-friendly.

Economy tip: a Merchant social class (+10% Yuls) or better (Royal / Sovereign) makes rods, crafts, and shop pivots cheaper while you feed the tower. Pair crystal farms with EXP-friendly races (Elf, Human-Dwarf, Devil) so levels and spins rise together.

Build pairing advice

  • Anti Magic + Devil/Elf — Ceiling PvE identity; add Mana Sensitive or High Mana for uptime.
  • Poison + spacing play — Lean on dodge discipline from the controls guide; Strong Body helps if you still get clipped.
  • Tier II + Sovereign/Merchant — Accept the book, print Yuls/EXP, return to the tower later with a real crystal bank.
  • Any book + Chosen One — Broad passive glue while you wait for a race upgrade.

For concrete loadouts after you lock a kit, check Best builds. For race and trait spin strategy, use How to reroll and the sibling races / traits pages.

When to stop spinning

Stop (or hard pause) when any of these are true:

  • You own Anti Magic or Poison.
  • You own a Tier II book and your crystal income is still fragile.
  • You are close to needing race/trait pity more than another grimoire roll.
  • A patch note on Updates just changed rates—re-read before spending soft pity.

Greed is the fastest way to stall a beta account. A good Tier II main plus Elite passives usually outpaces a broke account still hunting the perfect book.

Revisit this list after balance patches. Kits move; pity math and crystal routes usually matter more than one overnight tier reshuffle.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common Clover Time questions.

What is the best grimoire in Clover Time?

Anti Magic and Poison share the Tier I meta for move variety and PvE damage. Either is a valid stop point. Ice, Explosive Flame, and Battle Lightning are the next-best keeps.

How does grimoire pity work?

Community-tracked thresholds are roughly Epic at 35, Legendary at 70, and Mythical at 175 rolls. Confirm the live counters at the Grimoire Tower before spending Mana Crystals.

How do I get Mana Crystals?

Open chests, pick up world drops, craft from enemy fragments (such as Mana Wolves), and fish to convert catches into fragments and crystals. Finral can teleport you to the tower once you are ready to spin.

Should I reroll a Tier II grimoire?

Usually no—not immediately. Tier II books clear content well. Bank crystals for race, social class, and trait upgrades first, then return to the tower when income is stable.

Where is the Grimoire Tower?

Ask Finral in the starting village for a teleport, or travel from the village toward compass heading about 105–120 by foot or broom.

Is Fire worth keeping long term?

Fire sits in Tier III and is often the weakest listed option. Use it to learn the game, then plan a crystal farm and tower session for Tier II or better.
